Shotspotter activation leads to arrest in east Bakersfield

Officers arrested a man on suspicion of discharging his firearm after a Shotspotter activation helped lead them to the area. Officers received the notification early Sunday morning near the 500 block of E. 11 Street. Officers found nine . 40 caliber casings in the front yard of a home. Officers said they contacted the homeowner, Juan Mendoza, and he admitted to shooting a gun in a celebratory manner. Mendoza was arrested and two firearms from inside the home were seized.
