Prop 12 draws thin line between cage-free and forever caged

Prop 12 is being marketed as an opportunity to make all eggs produced in California cage-free. The proposition can eventually accomplish that goal and get hens out of cages, however, some are concerned it could ultimately be used to keep hens in cages forever. Not just hens, calves and pigs too. The living areas for those three animals are defined in Prop 12. Calves for veal get 43 sq ft. Breeding pigs get 24 sq ft. Hens get a single square-foot.
