
From now on, every time you buy something in Bakersfield, for every dollar you spend you'll be charged an extra penny. That penny is Bakersfield's new city sales tax. Bit by bit those pennies will add up, giving the city an extra $50 million a year. That money is earmarked for public safety and for the most part that is what it will be used for.
